Another brilliant offering from one of Christchurch City’s most experienced DJs. Rob Munro (aka “therobsta”) has produced a definitive house mix representative of the April/May 09 house scene. This epic mix contains Rob’s usual variety of “get up and move” house tunes.

Last Saturday I did a back-to-back set with Rob at the Pulzar FM launch party. The club (Liquidity) was packed, and all had a great time. We must do that again :)

Pictured here is Ellaskins, the DJ Tutor.

I am often asked for advice and lessons on how to DJ. Its great to know that so many people want to learn this skill, and I’m always happy to offer whatever help I can. Recently I have been pointing people to the “DJ Tutor” on YouTube. The DJ Tutor (aka Ellaskins) offers video tutorials on all the basic techniques involved in the art of DJ’ing. He provides tips on everything from basic beatmatching to eq manipulation. He’s very good at what he does, and he has a quirky sense of humor.

So, if you are a new DJ looking for advice, tips, and tricks, then try out the Ellaskins the “DJ Tutor” (pictured above) on his YouTube page or his recently established website, djtutor.com.

Metropolis Radio

An update on Metropolis radio–of particular interest to people who live in Christchurch City.

We have changed our frequency to 108.0FM. This seems to give us a much clearer signal, since there are not many other stations in that band area. I was very happy to hear our signal broadcasting through the central city area and out to some of the nearby suburbs. Making the frequency change will almost certainly grow our audience… a good thing :)

The station still contains a range of musical styles, but has an emphathis on electronica–especially in the evenings and during weekends.

Our next step is to get Metropolis streamed live over the net. When this happens I will place a link to the feed here.

Rene Hewitt (whose mix I featured here last week) has launched a new forum renehewitt.forumco.com. It features a range of threads from favorite dance classics to mix sets. The forum is a great idea and provides another avenue for creating communities in music.

Thanks for the link Rene :)

Hello world

Greetings,
Well, this is my first post in this nice new blog. The purpose of this blog is to satisfy my interest (and hopefully other people’s) in House music. I have DJ’d in clubs off and on since 1990, and have become quite discerning about music. My genre of choice is House.

At the time of writing this first entry, my DJ’ing is focused on recording live mix sets for Metropolis radio 88.2, Pulzarfm 88.7 Christchurch city–and any other station that will take them :) My plan is to put these sets up on this blog making a kind of a collection of podcasts. These will be downloadable or streamable.

I also plan to link to sets by other House DJs. There’s a lot out there and I would like to collect the best of it for this site. Its a big job, and hopefully I can keep it working to a high standard. I would like this site to be a place for people to visit regularly to get up-to-date exposure to that smooth, sexy, groove we call “House”.

Enjoy your visit, and please check back again soon.
