A wonderful journey here, which breaks into two distinct sections. The first part starts with 5 deep house tracks before swinging 180 degrees into some serious dance floor beats, which make up the second part of the set. As an intermediate track separating the two sections, I’ve used “Paparazzi (Moto Blanco remix). This tune is distinct from the rest of the tunes in the set, and serves as a nice transition track. The contrast between the two halves of the set really makes it a full and enjoyable journey. The beautiful, melodic, soulful sounds in the first half compliment very nicely with the harder dance sounds of the second half. Throughout this set I filter loops and samples to ensure the progression gels together.

I have put this in the “Masterpiece” category because the set was planned, and the timing and track selection was deliberately decided upon to ensure a sensible harmonic and mood progression.

Maestro B - Heads Will Swing

My first set for 2010 takes you on a journey through light and shade, with a couple of surprises thrown in. Easing in with nice instrumental tunes, I then filter in some of the tracks containing really interesting chord progressions, which darken the mood temporarily until Isoften the journey with uplifting sounds.

Keep an ear open from around the 44 min mark. At 44:22 I loop the bass line in “Come and Get my Lovin” and mash that up with a quirky swing-bop tune. The overall effect is pleasing and provides an interesting diversion.

Maestro B - No Stress

Christmas is approaching, which means it is the season to spend quality time with family and friends. Here’s an uplifting set to put you into that positive, good feeling frame of mind. I start with some nice deep soulful house–lots of piano and sax, then move the journey into some good funky house grooves. Over the last couple of months I have very much enjoyed exploring deep house, and I think it makes a perfect opening to a set. Often when I’m DJing, I don’t get a chance to play deep grooves because I’m playing more full on dance music. The thing I like about studio mixes is the freedom to build a real progression within a 60 minute timeframe.

Something different for this set. I start with a few nice, soulful house tracks with a wonderful laid back sound. What a nice introduction to the set. These tunes lure you into the set with sweet soulful vocals and catchy bassline hooks.

The set journeys slowly into more upbeat rhythms until we reach the realm of discohouse. We continue with good lush discohouse beats right up to the end of the set. I enjoyed this journey, and I hope you do too. A good late afternoon set to warm up towards a night on the town.

Maestro B - We’ve Found Love

What a great feeling I get when I find a bunch of seemingly unrelated tunes that fit so nicely together. “Cool Summer” is the first track in the set, within which I lace samples from the excellent remix of “Now That We’ve Found Love”. I then play out that entire tune before heading into a couple of electrohouse tracks. These pave the way for a divergence into some awesome tribal beats–tracks that I chose specifically for their definitive dance sound along with nice melodic breakdowns. I do like the contrast between the tribal dance beat and a melodic breakdown.

Throughout the set I insert samples and loops from upcoming tracks, which serves to gel the whole thing together. And as always, the set has a defined conclusion, finishing with some nice laid back beats from a booleg remix of “Missing”.
