Direct from Brisbane, therobsta has sent through his latest two mixsets. The first, “Summertime” is the most uplifting journey through funky/disco house and into some electro sounds. The tracks here are a nice representation of the style. Throughout, the mixing is perfect, and in most cases the tracks are harmonically compatible, which allows for pleasing transitions. Artistically, Rob has created a journey that takes his audience from a defined start through to a conclusion. During the journey, the listener is treated to an ongoing progression of buildups and releases. This cycle of anticipation/release is what separates a well structured set from an unstructured set. Now, the structure of a set can be pre-planned, or it can happen spontaneously (as it most often does in a live situation). The point is that the audience is being taken on a purposeful journey.

In “Prog City” Rob introduces a cross between electro/prog/eurohouse. An interesting new sound which can be enjoyed in any situation. As with “Summertime”, the mixing is technically perfect and the structure of the set takes the listener on a meaningful journey.

MAESTRO B - “Curious Noise”

Category: Mixsets

This is one of my best mixsets to date. It takes the listener through a well defined journey of electro and electrohouse. The track progression is natural, and everything seems to fit just nicely.

As always, I like to traverse various subgenres of house. In this set I include electro, electrohouse, discohouse, house, and a hint of tribal house. So there’s a lot here, and the journey is worthwhile. The set builds anticipation through some nice build-up tracks before hinting into some discohouse. It then drops right back with “Sunglasses at Night”, which stands on its on as a unique track with a somewhat different feel to all the others. I think it works well there.

I’ll be using many of these tracks at “Curious Noise” (Foam bar) on Saturday 29th November, so if you’re in Christchurch come along. We’re doing an afternoon party in the park on the same day, so it will be good to see people come along to that. I hope the weather continues to be so warm.

MAESTRO B - “Masquerave”

Category: Events, Mixsets

We are producing a Masquerade party called “Masquerave”. The date is set for December 5th, and we are delighted with the level of interest. I have put together a 60 minute promo mix for the Masquerave. This represents the range of house tunes that I’ll be playing. This is a multi-genre event, so there will also be sets of Psy-Trance and Hard Dance. Later in the evening I’ll be playing a Hard House set, which will be accompanied by a Live Lead Guitar. We tried this out at an event this weekend with pleasing results.

If you are in Christchurch, I hope to see you at the Masquerave.
Otherwise, enjoy this set :)
